It is becoming more and more acceptable in today's society considering three decades ago, only 1 in 100 people had tattoos while today, 1 in 10 people have them. While society seems to be accepting of this body art, some employers still cannot deal with body art in the workplace. However, there are many employers who are changing their outlook as to what is and is not acceptable. There are occupations and employers who will hire those with visible tattoos and piercings.
Spas and Salons
Spas and salons are one of the biggest employers of those with tattoos and piercings. These occupations include receptionists, hairstylists, massage therapists, make-up artists, nail technicians and cosmetologists. Most of these places have customers and clientele that will admire your tattoos and piercings. In fact, many of the customers believe that those with body art have a way of incorporating imagination and style into the job they do.
Photographer
Photography is another instance where people view body art as a form of expression. Since many photographers work for themselves, they really have no one to answer to as far as covering up their body modifications. Clientele that seek out photographers and notice they have body art tend to think that these professionals are creative and imaginative in their photographs.
Entertainment
The entertainment industry welcomes those with body modifications. Whether it is the radio industry or a career in music, film, athletics or modeling, tattoos and piercings are totally accepted.
Mechanics
You have probably seen the TV shows like Monster Garage and American Chopper. These people all have tattoos and lots of them and have a great career making and repairing cars and motorcycles. Since the majority of the time, mechanics spend their working hours in a garage; there really is no need to cover up anything.
Writer
Most writers are self-employed whether they are a creative writer, freelance writer or novelist. This means that they work from home or they have a private office somewhere and they adhere to their own set of rules. However, writers that work for a magazine company or publishing company can still have body art in the work environment. The reason is that when a writer has an article printed in some form of publication, it is usually just their headshot that goes along with the article.

The only real requirement to be a personal trainer is their overall well-being and physique. Oftentimes, the number of tattoos they have is really overlooked since most people who are looking for a personal trainer are looking for someone that can get them in shape.
Industrial Workers, Construction Workers and Electricians
These blue collar jobs require people to be hard working and have dexterity and body modifications are really not that important. Many of those who work in the construction and industrial fields have little contact with the end-users because these folks are contracted.
